one month away

Oh my, I'm about one month out from leaving for Singapore and it's now becoming very real. Each day I think of yet another thing I have to do to be prepared. I have so many questions! The other night I was surfing the net finding grocery store ads in Singapore....gotta be sure there is something I will be able to eat there! Great news...potatoes and peanut butter are easy to find there!!! I will survive (that's a great song from the 70's!). I think making the conversion from US Dollar to Singapore Dollar in my brain is going to be very difficult at first. I will have to make some sort of "cheat sheet" to know that one US Dollar is approximately $1.45 in Singapore Dollar. I'm sure it will become easier as days go by, but for a while, I'll refer to my cheat sheet! As I look at my closet and try to figure out what I take and what I don't take, I feel overwhelmed. How does one decide what one needs or won't need while away from home for such a long time? As I am sitting writing this I wonder how much different my blog will be once I actually arrive in Singapore. I'm sure you'll hear a lot of culture shock, and a little home sickness....but this is an opportunity of a lifetime and I'm honored to be going to represent my company in a different country, even if for just a short while.

Last night we went to Ohana's Steakhouse to celebrate Zac's 19th (yep, 19...the last "teen year") birthday. How in the world have 19 years gone by....he's growing up....and catching up with me...I mean, I'm only 19 myself! :) I know Ohana's is rather "Americanized", but still, I was nervous to be eating somewhere that served food I wasn't use to eating. I was able to have some steak and all was well. However, sitting there, made me realize how far outside my comfort zone I'll be in Singapore when it comes to eating out. Yes, they have some "American" restaurants like McDonalds and KFC, but I want to be able to step a little outside my comfort zone in Singapore. I know it will be exciting and scary, all at once. More on this once I get to Singapore!
