The weekend

I had a great weekend. Sandy from work and I went to Chinatown Friday night, Bugis (just another area of the city) on Saturday and today we went to Vivo City (a mall). I'm including some pictures from my weekend below.

Also...tonight when Sandy and I were riding the train from Vivo City home, Sandy got off the train at her usual spot and I continued on the train....only to realize I was suppose to get off at the same spot Sandy does! Now, I know I've been hungry for conversation, but to think I was talking and said "Here's your stop" and didn't realize it was mine...now that's funny! But the funniest part was that while I continued on the WRONG train and got off at the next stop to wait for the training going in the RIGHT direction, I checked my Blackberry and emailed Margaret who was in the office in Des Moines. I was relaying this set of events to her and apparently it was very funny....from her side! Okay, it's funny...it's late Sunday night, I've walked and walked and walked (because that is all you do in Singapore) and I'm tired. Hope you found this to be funny too.

This is the pool at my apartment. I usually spent 1.5 to 2.0 hour each Saturday and Sunday there. I love it. It's hot here...you sit in the sun and read, and when you get hot, you jumped in the pool to cool off. It's so relaxing!

This is Arab Street. It's a shopping area (what isn't!). It's got a lot of handmade things and materials to make clothing.

This morning I went to the grocery store. I did not find a church yet, and was feeling down in the dumps about that. I decided to walk along a street I've never been on...it's more residential. I knew eventually it would get me where I needed to go. As I went along I took some pictures of the housing (see below) and all of the sudden I could hear praise music...and they were singing in English...and I knew the songs because they were songs we sing at First Family in Ankeny. I was so excited!!! I could hear the music, and figure out what building it was in, but I couldn't figure out how to get into the building. There was no gate to get past the fencing. I finally just sat down on the curb and sang along with the songs. When the music stopped I got up and headed towards the grocery store, and suddenly realized the building the music was coming from was the International Academy right across from my apartment building. The school sits on a couple city blocks and I was apparently at the back end, and didn't know it. I plan to investigate this week and see what kind of church is meeting there, when and how I get in.
When I was on the way to meet Sandy tonight there was live entertainment on the corner by my apartment...there is always something going on here. I took a picture of the guys playing drums...they were very good.

Tonight we went to Vivo City. It's on the edge of the water and has a bridge to Sentosa (and island that has food, shopping and a beach...I've yet to go, but I'll be going soon). The view was great from the outside to the water. There was this great sculpture (the flower tree) and this beautiful fountain.
