It's July 19th and I've just started telling family and friends about my upcoming adventure to Singapore. My employer, Principal Global Investors, has asked me to go to our Singapore (yes, that is a long way away!) office for three to six months. After much consideration, I have decided to go!!! I signed on for three months, and will consider the additional three months after I get there...however, I'll be home for Christmas (isn't that a song?) no matter what!
On the work side...I have begun the process to apply for a work visa in Singapore. The form is 12 pages long...they basically want to know when I go to the bathroom and what I eat for lunch! Wow, I now appreciate a little more what my niece and nephew, Mandi and Eric, have had to go through for all the paperwork to adopt Aden and Avery! If all goes well with the work visa I should be going to Singapore in mid to late September. I am also doing a lot of training at work so I am well prepared for helping in the Singapore office.
On the personal side...there is so much to do! About every three mintues I think of someting else I need to be thinking about! Like a few minutes ago I thought "where will I do laundry in Singapore, and what kind of laundry detergent do they have?" Zac starts his first year of college at DMACC in late August, so I'll be there for that! He will be staying in West Des Moines with his Dad while I am gone.
You know...I think I'm living my life backwards.... Most kids get out of high school, leave home to go to college and do all those experiences. Not me....I stayed home or at least around home...and I am in college right now (I have decided to put off finishing...only putting it off....until next year so I could take advantage of this experience...but graduation is evident!). I've never been away from Zac more than 14 days, and I've never been far from my Mom. This will definetely be difficult, but also a great adventure in my life. I am excited that God has me at this particular place in my life...available for this adventure!!!!
Since you know me...you will understand this...one of the first things that I wondered about when the opportunity was presented to me...."What will I eat?"....I'm somewhat selective in the things I like...I'm a meat and potatoes girl, but I've been assured there is plent of American food there. In fact, my Mom told me this morning there is McDonalds, KFC and Arby's (hey, I didn't even know my Mom knew how to search the web!!). I'm making the words larger on the blog to help my Mom see this better :)
I decided to create this blog and keep it going while I'm in Singapore. It may be nothing more than me putting my thoughts on paper (er, the world wide web), but hopefully you will enjoy taking some of the journey with me!
