SATURDAY MORNING WALK

You can only go so long without a haircut. Today was "d day". I had asked around about getting a haircut in Singapore, but everyone I asked kind of hedged when they answered and finally someone said "the beauticians are trained for Asian hair, not Caucasian hair"....so I cut my own hair. Yep, I borrowed scissors from Sandy at work and cut my own hair. It's not bad, but that's today....who knows what will happen in another five weeks! I miss Mia!!!!!!

I've noticed a strange cultural thing here....when a guy and girl are walking together and are obviously boyfriend and girlfriend, the boy carries the purse for the girl. I cannot even imagine Zac carrying Brittany's purse! Oh my!!!! Very different here.

Yesterday I had some ice cream from the street vendor and he asked if I wanted it in a "biscuit". I had no idea what he was asking and so I said no, I wanted it in a cup. Then I stepped back and watched him...he was putting the block of ice cream between two crackers...so to us, crackers, to Singaporean's, biscuits. Yet another language difference.

This morning I took a walk...a really long walk...I would guess 4 or 5 miles total. It was lovely to get away from the hub bub and be peaceful. I went off the beaten path (meaning the main road I go to everything on) and found a beautiful park. This is picture of the flowers blooming in the water at the park.

This was a tree along the way. It's really odd, there is something growing on all the bark.

Here's the growth.

And this was along the way on the sidewalk, not even in the park, where you could just sit down and rest. It was so beautiful. Singapore has beautiful greenery everywhere and the sidewalks are so clean....it's really a sight to behold.

Tonight Sandy and I went to an area of town called Holland Village. It was just another "suburb" as I've started to call the different areas. I found this sign funny at Burger King (yes, we ate at Burger King!) Apparently there is a school nearby and people are often taking up space studying and not allowing paying customers room to eat their meal. I think it's funny because it says "please give way to customers dining in. Please do your home work at your place"...not "your own home", but "your place". Funny.

And there is such a hub bub about bathrooms being clean, in fact, there is a fine for not flushing the toilet. I went to a public restroom and this sign was there. I had to take a picture!
