OUT AND ABOUT IN SINGAPORE AND A BIT OF MALAYSIA

The other night we went to an area called Clark Quay (pronounced key) to have dinner and look around. This area really comes alive when the sun goes down. We ate at Brewerx (had a yummy American hamburger) and then walked around the area. This is a picture of a really cool bridge we walked over. I had time to take this picture because Zac was talking on the phone to his girlfriend, Brittany. It was so cute...he's standing on this bridge describing to Brittany what we did that day. So sweet, this young love!!!

There was a Hindu festival this week in Singapore. We were off to another area of Singapore when we saw the night parade, so we stopped to take a quick look. Here's a picture of one of the thing in the parade...this is all lit up, but the amazing part is that it is carried on the back of a man. Simply amazing...they certainly go all out for their religious events here.

We continued down the road to the Esplanade. I would compare this venue to our Civic Center in Des Moines. The building is made to look like the Durian fruit that is very popular here. Well, the truth is the fruit smells horrible and you either love the fruit to eat or you hate it. I am not brave enough to try it, however, my brother did try it when he was here. He was on the side of not liking that fruit! Anyway, here's the building lit up at night.

Outside the Esplanade was a beautiful fountain and it had these blue spheres floating on them. I took this picture because I knew Doug would love them! :)

We walked a bit further down the road to the famous Merlion. This is one of the most famous tourist sites in Singapore. This is a mermaid/lion combination and shoots off water from it's mouth. It's quite popular, in fact, I saw a wedding party having pictures there once. It is quite a site any time of the day, but I think it is most beautiful at night.

We were taking pictures and I offered to take a picture of two ladies that were there together so they could both be in the picture. Then they wanted to take a picture of the two of us, so here it is. They were so funny, then they wanted to take a picture with the Merlion in the background and another one with the Singapore Flyer in the background...they were really into it. Zac laughed a bit about that.

Monday we slept in late and headed to Malaysia...just over the border to Jahor Bahru. Here is Zac and I on the bus. He was giving me lessons on how to point the camera just right to get us both...this is about the sixth take...I'm a slow learner!

We got through immigration in both Singapore and Malaysia. The Malaysian site is newly open and I wasn't quite sure how we got from there to the mall, but I figured we could figure it out. We ended up in the wrong spot, but two nice ladies told us how to backtrack and get to the right spot. What an improvement...you can now walk through a skywalk to the mall from the immigration center. Amazing!
We went to the City Square Mall which is basically the main attraction in Jahor Bahru, as far as I can tell. This is Zac outside the mall....it's actually after he made his purchases, but I have a picture of Doug and I there, so I wanted a picture of Zac too!

This picture just makes me smile and smile and smile. Zac and I were having Baskin Robbins (yes, in Malaysia) ice cream and I can't remember what I said, but he started laughing...it was so fun to see, and I had my camera in hand for some reason, so I snapped this picture. He's so cute...even if he is all grown up!

We took the Singapore city bus back to Singapore and then the train to dinner...California Pizza Kitchen (yes, another American restaurant...and yes, I talk about food a lot as Zac has two things he says a lot..."It's hot." and "I'm hungry.")
We had a great day in Malaysia and fun memories!!!
