WHAT A FUN WEEK!!!

Look closely...you can see some "raised" lines on the floor here at the MRT station. It follows around from the time you get off the MRT until you are on the escalator on the way out of the station. I think it is there for the blind people. The markings are different as you turn a corner etc. The other night Zac was being silly and following along the markings. I know it doesn't like something "worthy" of being on a blog...but it made me laugh...especially since he's not a "follower"...and it just made me smile to watch him to do this and be free to have fun!!!

On Friday some of the ladies in the office took Zac and I to a hawker center for lunch. It was called Golden Shoe....seriously, no idea why it's called that...there weren't any shoes for sale there :)

Here's a look at one of the areas you could buy food at the hawker center.

Here's a picture of some of the prices...seriously, local food is so inexpensive!!! "Set Meal" usually means the meat, rice and soup. So a "set meal" below is only $2.50 Singapore Dollars, which is less than $2 USD. Wow!! Too bad I don't eat local food!

Here's what Zac had for lunch...chicken with hot salsa stuff, little itty bitty crackers (see next
picture), rice and soup. He said it was good.

This is an up close picture of the cracker that came with his food. So pretty!!!

Friday night we went shopping in our "neighborhood". Zac was being silly in this one store and tried on these funny GREEN glasses.....

But, we ended up buying the black ones as a funny joke, so he put them on at home and I took pictures, of course.
Zac stuffing his mouth with grapes and showing off his glasses.

Zac being cute....

Saturday was Valentine's Day and Zac chose a trip to the Singapore Zoo and breakfast with the Orangutan's. We started our morning with a double dose of Red Bull....

Here's Zac showing you the pretty napkin folding done at the Zoo....ummm...not sure why he put it on his head!!!

Here he is sitting at the table. He wasn't very excited to eat here as there were ants all over the table...um, we were outside at a zoo!!! But the good news...our table was right at the edge where the Orangutan's were going to be....so fun!!!

Just before the "show" started we were off taking pictures of the Orangutan's. This one was swinging through the air.

This is the log that the orangutan's were being summoned to in order to sit there and then we could have our picture taken with them. Here's the first one there...he came quickly...they know they are going to get fed!!!!

Two have arrived now and are getting food from this zookeeper. It was fun to watch him interact with them. He's the boss, you know that right up front. Here they are about to get some sort of fruit juice in this coconut shell.

This is the momma one...look closely, her baby is there and leaning back. It has no hair yet and was clinging closely to the momma.

We'd been at the zoo for about an hour, and boy was it hot, hot, hot, hot, hot!!!!! We were drenched...of course about the time we look the most wilted it was time to have your picture taken with the orangutan's.

They also had a snake you could "pet"...yuck...no way...but Zac wanted to, so I took the picture. he said the skin was loose and then went on to tell me it was because there needed to be room to expand when it ate an animal. Oh joy!

Zac got back in the que to have his picture taken again with the orangutan's. They are eating bananas this time...just like Zac does...oh wait, no Zac peels them, the orangutans did not peel them!

After about 1.5 hours here we decided it was time to walk through the very large zoo. Here's only a few of the more than 300 pictures I took :)
No idea what this strange bird is, but couldn't resist taking the picture!

The zebras were so close and amazing. There are three here...I was hoping the one in the left hand front side would move so I just had two zebras looking face to face, but they weren't cooperating!

There were two jaguars. The difference between a jaguar and a leopard is that the jaguar has a diamond in the middle of the dark spot. This jaguar was five years old. It appears to be just lounging around...looks sweet....

Well, I guess, not so sweet...wouldn't want to meet this one in a dark alley!

This black one is 18 years old. You can't see the spots...until it is in the sunlight. It was amazing!

I've noticed this around Singapore and since I saw it at the zoo, I asked the young lady if I could take a picture of her flowers. Apparently when someone gives someone a bouquet of flowers they are all pretty like this and people carry them around...unlike in the US where we put them in a vase and keep them at home.

There were no cows at the zoo. Hmmm...we are from Iowa and we think people should see cows...oh wait, there at Ben & Jerry's ice cream store is a cow...yep, that's Zac on the cow!

In light of all the other "weird" pictures I've taken, I had to include this one too. I went into the restroom and there was a shower in the stall. Okay, a little odd, but it's really odd when you realize that to use it you would basically be right in front of the toilet. So odd!

Zac being silly.

Red butt Himalayan monkeys...hey Tjelta's, don't they just look like they need a good dose of Corona on their butts!!!

By the "Primate Kingdom" there were wooden people everywhere. Zac thought he should have his picture taken with them.

This kangaroo statue was right outside the Outback area.

A kangaroo...just lounging around!

The elephants were amazing. They frolicked in the water and were really playing with each other.

Here the zookeeper had just filled this metal bucket with bananas. Then he dangled the bucket from the tree. The elephants would raise their trunks, stretching them a long way, and either hit the side or blowing up from the bottom until a banana would come out the top or drop out the bottom. It was really fun to watch!

Did I mention how hot it was? If I was hot, I can't imagine how hot the polar bear was...but he just wouldn't slip into the water and swim for us.
We had the most amazing time at the zoo. We were hot and tired, but so very glad we went. Zac said it was one of the best things he's ever done in his life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved watching him enjoy himself. Taking him to the zoo as a little kid was fun, but taking him to the zoo as a young man was even better. It's definitely a day neither of us will ever forget!
